I'm not sure how your at-bats are going this year. Maybe good, maybe great.
Some of you may be struggling. Here's my advice for all of you hitters.
You can hit the ball right on the nose, the button, or the money, but you still have to get it past nine defenders.
It’s 9 against 1 when you’re in the batter’s box...
Plus it takes an average fastball 400 milliseconds to reach home plate and a hitter has less than 150 milliseconds to recognize the spin, speed, and location of the pitch.
Hitting is hard. Cut yourself some slack.
Just because you didn't get a hit today, tomorrow, or for the rest of the week, it doesn't mean it’s the end of the world. It just means you’re playing baseball.
That's my advice for you today. Accept failure as part of the game, while setting high standards for your process, preparation, and performance.
The only thing you can control is your mindset and winning the at-bat. Let that be your definition of success, and you will play for a very long time.
You got this! Let's get after it!

Becoming a "Barrel Guy"...
The barrel guy makes solid contact even when their swing feels off.
The barrel guy doesn't get cheated by the Fastball.
The barrel guy can still drive the ball with authority when they leave their posture or when their mechanics break down just a tic.
The barrel guy gets it done in hit-and-run situations.
The barrel guy can swing it in every zone with complete plate coverage using the big parts of the field.
The barrel guy is tough with two, makes the pitcher work, and puts pressure on the defense to make plays.
A good-looking swing is great, but hitting isn't a "looks contest."
Be a barrel guy.
What's your approach?

Here's my take: "The first hitter of the inning sets the tone. You need runs, but more importantly, you need baserunners."
