New Technology Helps Hitters To Sharpen Their Pitch Recognition, Baseball Vision & Reaction Skills.
Based on user surveys, 95% of hitters training in Applied Vision Baseball have said they feel MORE confident & are more consistent in recognizing & reacting to high-velocity fastballs & hard breaking balls...
WHY HITTING IS SO DANG HARD...
On average, it takes 400 milliseconds for an average MLB fastball to reach home plate.
It takes 100 milliseconds for your brain to process the baseball coming out of the pitcher's release point.
Then, it takes about 25 milliseconds for your brain to tell your body to swing or not.
An average MLB swing is about 150 ms
That means a hitter has roughly 50 milliseconds to recognize the spin, speed, and location of the ball, and put a quality swing at where they predict the ball will be at the point of contact.
The reality is so simple - it's mind-blowing.
As hitters, we're only as good as the pitches we swing at.
We can have the most refined hitting mechanics on the planet, and all the confidence in the world, but if we're not seeing the ball as well as we should be, our mechanics will break down and we will lose our confidence.
Hitters need off-the-charts pitch recognition skills to compete at a high level. Period.
CAN HITTER'S SEE THE BALL OF THE BAT?
Can elite hitters actually see the ball come off the bat?
The short answer is "no”.
The hitter's optic nerves don't function fast enough to see the ball off the bat. When elite hitters make hard contact while showcasing superior pitch recognition skills they're actually swinging at where they anticipate the ball will end up after recognizing spin, speed, and location after the pitcher’s release point. This is called saccadic rhythm.
It's a key skillset we help hitters to sharpen in the Applied Vision Baseball App.
Chances are when you're seeing a big leaguer taking "effortless effort" swings on a 98 mph fastball, or a dirty slider, what you're seeing is anticipation, prediction & reaction at the highest level.
HOW TO SLOW DOWN THE BALL.
How good a hitter is at swinging at where the ball will be once it hits the strike zone based on the information they collect from the ball at release point will dictate:
- - how well they see the ball
- - how consistent they are at making hard contact
- - how superior their pitch recognition skills develop.
Researchers have used "flash drag illusions" to demonstrate how our brains have a natural tendency to predict the motion of moving objects.
In the video below, you can see how your vision naturally attempts to predict the movement of the dots based on the movement in the background.
Keep in mind: The dots stay in the same place the entire time.
